Another book give-away

Laura Lofgreen, one of my blogging friends, just did an interview with me that is up on her blog:

http://mydeartrash.blogspot.com/2010/02/janette-rallison-young-adult-author.html

I think all of my followers should read it, because I can actually be insightful and witty when given questions I can write out and then revise. In real life, not so much. In real life, I can never think of the word I want and half of my sentences end with the phrase, " . . . you know, that, um, thing . . .(insert wild hand gesture to emphasize my point)"

So in order to entice you to read the interview, I'll give away a book (I'll let you choose which)to one person who leaves a comment on my blog about something they learned about me on Laura's blog. (No fair asking for My Double Life though, because I don't have copies of it yet.)

My Fair Godmother could be a movie?!?!!?! That news just made my day! If, on the slim chance I win I definatly want My Fair Godmother. It was the first book of yours I read and its my favorite!

I would love to see My Fair Godmother made into a movie. It's so fun to watch characters come to life outside of our minds. I also agree that listening to music is very distracting. When I need to concentrate music would just make me sing or want to get up and dance.

I learned a lot about you because I am not a blogger and don't normally read people's blogs. I have all of your books so I don't need one but I would still like to comment. I have a daughter who loves to read and I liked that she can read your books. She likes the teen ones but she also liked Time Riders with all its mistakes. I loved it to with the play on words. I laughed through most of the book and did not care about the mistakes. I would have to say that I had a slight crush on Tristan too in My Fair Godmother. In Just One Wish I could barely read the book because I was so embarrassed for the main character. My daughter was laughing at me. I would just like to say that I really enjoy your books. Thanks for writing them! I do have one question though Why have you not come out with any other books for the Adult LDS market under the name Sierra St. James?

I love Pride and Prejudice and The Bartimaeus Trilogy! Now I must read Hunger Games just because you liked it. :)

I would love to own a copy of My Fair Godmother.. been meaning to buy it for months!

I don't think I ever tire of author interviews! It is always such a joy to learn more about everyone.

Oh I am so with you on the warm beach! I live in the South but this year it has been unseasonably cold! yech. I am ready for Spring & Summer.

It is nice to know that you enjoyed Project BookBabe as much as those of us in the audience did. That event is one of the spotlights of my life. Faith is amazing! Just following her blog and seeing any updates makes me smile!

Oh as for your books...I have yet to get my hands on My Fair Godmother & by the looks of this interview I NEED a copy! lol

Thank you for being you.

Have I told you lately that I love your work?

LOVED the interview! And of course the sequel to MFG is going to be great. I'll be hoping for a movie deal too, especially if it's as good as the book!

I thought it was interesting that you don't listen to music when you write. I like to listen to "new age" music a lot when I write certain scenes, and then shift over to something heavier when I need to write a battle or "angst" in some form or other. I still want to get my hands on a copy of "Fame, Glory, and other things on my to do list" which was sold out of the bookstore the day we met.

Well, since I've never read your books and haven't followed your blog very long, the entire interviw was new to me. :) I can't wait to run to my library and read everything, starting with My Fair Godmother. Thanks!!!

I found out that we have 2 of the same favorite books - Pride & Prejudice and Hunger Games. I have been meaning to read Princess Bride as well. I will move it up on my "to read" list. Thanks for being an awesome writer and offering book give-aways so often!

I would love to see a My Fair Godmother movie. It seems like many people who want to be writers think they should get an English degree, so it was interesting to read that you would find a marketing degree valuable.

I liked learning that you laugh out loud when you write some of your stories. The opening scene of Fame, glory, and other things on my to do list is one of my favorites! I have read it over and over and I laugh so hard each time!!!!! Thanks for writing, I love your books :)

I learned that I'm even more anxious to read your books. I haven't read any yet (sorry), but I'm starting My Fair Godmother today! Thanks for the interview.

I was happy to know that you laugh out loud when you write funny scenes! When I read My Fair Godmother to my jr high boys, my daughter had to keep taking over for me cause I kept laughing. (I loved the bikini scene, and death by shampoo had me in tears!) When my daughters are now describing a not so nice girl, they say that she smells like cough syrup! I also learned we share a fave movie in Sky High. We tease our children relentlessly when we beat them at any game or sport with, "Don't worry, you'll get your powers someday". Thank you for writing a sequel! I can't wait to read it! I would like to win How to take the Ex,...because it is the only book(including Sierra St. James')that I don't own. (I even won an ARC of My Double Life which I LOVE and guard with my life)
Thanks again! (I am now going to the next room to pray to the all knowing random number god...wish me luck!)

That really was a good interview! I liked this part...

"in the sequel to My Fair Godmother, there is a scene with Rumpelstiltskin that is darker than my usual stuff. But hey, he's a creepy fairy who wants to kill babies. How can that not be dark?"

I guessed from a FB status that rumplestilskin was going to be in it, but now it's confirmed. I kinda like that it will eb a dark side! You do such a good job of saying "hey, regardless of how much we love these fairy tales, they are just off!"

"I don't listen to music--I get distracted too easy. I want it to be perfectly quiet while I write."

I am a quiet writing person as well. And trying to write with kids music or tv is nearly impossible for me.

Oh my goodness!! I absolutely LOVE Pride and Prejudice too!!! Seriously one of my favorite books. And Project Book Babe was absolutely one of the BEST times I had ever had. If one of your books was made into a movie that would be AWESOME!!! You're such a great writer!!

rebekah said...

Rumplestiltskin makes sense in MFG2. that story has always intrigued me.

And a movie of MFG! yay

KA said...

OK, I'm going to steal everyone else's answer because I honestly didn't know you were talking to the movie folk about MFG. So at least if I'm ignorant, I have company.

Taffy said...

Thanks for the link to your interview! It was fun to read and I have feeling that is you in real life.
I bought my daughter 'It's a Mall World After All' because I laughed out loud while I read it. It is one of my favorite books of yours. Well, it's pretty close to MFG.
I don't have any of your 'other' books tho they are on my list to read.

Janette Rallison said...

Thanks for all your kind comments. I'll need to go and reread them all after I get my next revision lettter . . .

As for why I haven't written any more Sierra St. James books--I've been too busy trying to keep up with the contracts I have to write any more. That's not to say I won't every write one again. I am sort of a hopeless romantic. But they're not in the pipeline for this year. I have four other books I'm working on during 2010 and will just be happy if I can get them all done.

Great interview. I read the whole thing even though what I learned was at the top. 900,000 books? I had no idea. (Although it doesn't surprise me.) You should throw a blog party when you hit 1 Mil.

Just finished MFG and I absolutely loved it. Can't wait to read the sequel.

Great interview!

And a possible movie? So awesome :) *is excited*

As for the book (which, obviously I would love to win;) I'd like Revenge of the Cheerleaders (in truth I'd like all of them but you only said one.. lol).

Congratulations on being compared to Ellen Conford!

I love your books and I have to say that I really appreciate your humor and romance! I cringe when someone recommends a book to me and I have to put it down because I am too embarrassed to continue! Thank you for being the writer you are!

I learned that you taught writing at BYU. Love that school!

The Hunger Games are why I love to read. Such great movement. I love it when I get slightly irritated with the protagonist.

Janette, a movie? Really? And 4 books this year?
So impressed. So glad for you. And how can I say, "so" one more time?

Kimberly Vanderhorst said...

I'm a bit hung up on the movie thing too. Wow. It played like a movie in my mind when I read it and I would so love to see it on the big screen!

I'm really excited about the concept of a sequel, even if it can't quite compare to its beautiful older sister. Curious to know the timeline of that. Or in less polite terms, I WANT IT AND I WANT IT NOW.

That is all.

Okay, I learned that you are signed with Putnam New York and Walker Books for Young Readers. Could I please have Just One Wish? It's my favorite book ever.

All right--I can see why you like Pride and Prejudice and the Hunger Games, but Princess Bride? The ending ruined it... But ya know, that's just me.

MY fair godmother a movie, YES!!!! When I was reading it I though this would make a great movie. I also really enjoyed Tristan and Savannah's kiss at the end of my fair godmother! If i do win I would love a copy of My Fair Godmother.

Hi Janette. Several months ago you were recommended to me by my google reader and that's how I fell in love with your books.

....You say WHAT about Rumplestiltskin in Book 2? And a movie! That has made my day! I also learned you cried while writing Just One Wish. I cried while reading it and it takes a lot to make me cry while reading.

(If I were to win, I'd love to get a copy of My Fair Godmother. It's my favorite.)

I SO agree with you about the romance stuff that's out there - it's hard when you want to read romance, but don't want TOO much. I was so happy to find your books and felt good about letting my "tween" read them. We both love the humor in them, too.
Like many of your other fans, I'm thrilled to hear a movie may be in the making - MFG was our favorite! I've reccomended it to about everyone I know who reads - especially if they have daughters! Looking forward to the sequel. :)

I learned that you like Sky High, which happens to be one of my favorite movies. I think that means we are cosmic twins or something. Lucky me!

Okay, so I'm changing my comment: I have now read My Fair Godmother. I loved it. It was my first book by you, and I was pleasantly surprised to find myself laughing so much. Your reputation holds true, you are great at writing humor. It was so much fun to read, and I can't wait to read more from you.

I didn't know that you taught at BYU. That's really neat.

I would like to win "How to take the Ex out of Ex-Boyfriend."

Merry said...

One more thing: in your interview, you said that aspiring writers should read books about writing. Can you recommend any to me? Thanks!

Jasmine said...

Hi there!
So I doubt (seriously trule doubt..I seem to have the worst luck ever) that I will somehow win this contest..thing..:) But just in case, I'm leaving a comment XD
I found it interesting that "Just One Wish" was the saddest book you've ever written. That's actually my favorite book of yours, so far. (That's actually the one I'd like to win ;]). I've been actually thinking about that book for the past few days and how much I want to re-read it, so it would be amazing if I won it, =D
I know what you mean about not being able to listen to music while writing. Sometime while I write fanfiction (I'm that much of a nerd =p) I just have music on and I don't even realize what's playing because I kind of tune it out. Other times though I get to distracted by the music so I have to shut it off. :)
I love The Hunger Games books too! I can't wait for the third to come out! I love Peeta <3
So, just to list everything out, from your blog I learned that: you like a really wide variety of books, you've worked with Stephanie Meyer to raise cancer awareness, you don't listen to music while you work, and finally that you love beaches! (Really, who doesn't?)

I think all your books would make awesome movies. loved the interview and agree that written interviews are best because there's always the delete button. Someday I'll tell you about my radio interview with doug wright. It was awful!

Janette Rallison said...

I had an awful radio interview with Doug too! It was 13 years ago and even though DB sent me a tape of the interview to this day I haven't let my husband listen to it.

And good books on writing: Anything by Jack Bickham, Dwight Swain, or Gary Provost. Also Self Editing for the Fiction Writer.

Kate said...

Wow! 900,000 books sold, 16 books, a mom, and you taught at BYU--do you have some secret for making more time?

Yes, it's called, don't clean your house or make dinner, and I employ this trick way too often.
